The Libyan Revolution February 2011-October 2011
Libyans were inspired by the call for democracy that started in Tunisia and spread to other Arab countries. In early 2011, demonstration and unrests erupted in several Libyan cities. Gaddafi's brutal crackdown on protestors resulted in the transformation of peaceful demonstrations and protests to an armed conflict between Gaddafi's loyal forces and the anti-Gaddafi forces. The brutal response of Gaddafi's forces forced the UN members to establish a no fly zone over Libya to save civilians from being harmed. Gaddafi regime was toppled down after the capture and the killing of Gaddafi on Oct.20, 2011. |
